High heels- the metaphor.
When women got out of the kitchen, they traded the ladle for high heels. it was time to move on and they would not move on to anything less powerful. The ladle symbolises the control that they had over the house. The ladle is not a mere object of utility but one that unites women worldwide in their triumph over maintaining adn sustaining the household for centuries. Once they left the kitchen, they picked high heels as a symbol of independance and a dignified stance. It was meant to say 'despite treading on something that looks dangerous, i am totally in control of my life'. This is the dictum that most powerful women live their lives by.
